Zulu Collection

The Zulu Collection is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage and remarkable resilience of the Zulu people, known as "the people of the heavens." Originally, the protective power of sacred cloth was channeled by hunters and healers, embodying the essence of community and protection. The Zulu, one of South Africa's largest ethnic groups, are renowned for their powerful leaders like King Shaka Zulu, their vibrant ceremonies, and their traditional dances.

The Zulu pattern in our collection is an intricate message of love from wife to warrior. Triangles, representing male energy, are aligned in battle formation, pointing toward the Weaving Spindle (three parallel lines), a symbol of wealth and luxury. Dots, leading and following each triangle, are protected by the Bones of the Snake, which flank each family, emphasizing the importance of community. This pattern captures the essence of the Zulu people's bravery and the deep bonds within their society.

The history of the Zulu is marked by their unity and resilience, with traditions and customs passed down through generations. Beadwork, a female activity, began to take on symbolic meaning in courtship during the late nineteenth century. Unmarried girls would gather to create beadwork, initially learning techniques from older sisters, which served as a bonding activity. Beadwork became a medium for expressing interest in suitable young men, with coded patterns representing emotions and messages of love.

The Zulu Warrior Collection embodies this cultural richness, honoring the spirit of the Zulu people through designs that speak of their bravery, unity, and the deep love within their communities. Each piece tells a story, making it not just a functional item but a symbol of a profound cultural legacy.
